The first step is to determine the size the feather. It is based on its intended use; however, as a rule of thumb you should choose thread with approximately 70-75 wraps per square inch to get the best results.

While dyed feathers offer plenty of visual interest however their vibrant hues can fade more quickly than their natural counterparts so dyed feathers may not be the optimal choice for your particular project.
Another factor to consider is your available space; longer feathers may create more drama and formality, whereas smaller ones could be more casual. When selecting feathers for use in projects take note of their length and shape; some feathers have flat surfaces while others have larger curvilinear and ruffled designs which add an element of texture. As not caring for the feathers properly can result in knotted or static-charged feathers being used, be sure to examine each feather thoroughly before using them.
Once you have your feathers in the order you want them then place them in the crimp tube and then close it using pliers for an unsecure hold. This allows you to do other things with them such as sliding beads onto them for beaded earrings or wire the headpin directly onto a barrette for headpiece use; creating bird's nest pendants or clusters of flowers as pendants is also an alternative. You can also attach feathers directly to wire to create bracelets! Get creative! Try different arrangements as you design various effects
Feathers are beautiful accessories, which require special care to stay looking their best. When stored either hanging up or laid flat, they should not get crushed with other items or by hard surfaces. They must be handled with care to avoid chipping or cracking of feathers.
As an easy way to maintain their appearance, feathers can be kept looking beautiful by wrapping twine tightly around them. This kind of twine usually comes as an element of kits, or is available separately. its waxy coating allows it to be wrapped tightly around objects.
Make a wire piece long enough to wrap twice around the feather. Then, shorten it by about half its original length, using needle nose pliers grasp both ends. One runs parallel with its spine while the other perpendicularly forms an elongated loop (Photos 3 & 4). After doing this the feather can be hung on either an ear wire or jump rings (great for adding to necklaces) using its hook through the hole made in the middle of wrapping (Photo five).
If you'd like to add a second bead crimp, just repeat the same process until you've made your ideal feather earring - making sure to create identical pairs!
Once your earrings are complete Simply connect the earrings to the jump rings, then close it. Now, you can enjoy wearing your exclusive, unique feather earrings!
