Feathers earings are a classic option to add a touch of class to any look, making this tassel earring and feather an ideal accessory for formal occasions, and can also be worn casually with jeans for an easy everyday style statement.
The first step is to determine the size that your feather will be. It is based on its intended use; however, as a general rule of thumb you should choose thread with around 70-75 wraps per inch to achieve the most effective results.
Based on the theme you are using Based on your theme, neutral or natural feathers are likely to be the most appropriate. Although dyed feathers provide plenty of visual interest but their bright colors can disappear faster than natural feathers, so dyed may not be the optimal choice for your particular project.
Another factor to consider is your available space. Longer feathers may create more formality and drama, while smaller ones can seem more relaxed. When choosing feathers to use in your projects take note of their length and shape; some feathers have flat surfaces while others have larger curvilinear and ruffled designs that provide the appearance of texture. As not caring for them properly could cause knots or static-charged ones that are used, make sure to inspect them thoroughly before using them.
After you have your feathers arranged as desired then place them in a crimp tube and seal it with pliers to provide an ensconced hold. This allows you to use them for other purposes for example, like sliding beads over them to make earrings with beads or wire the headpin directly onto a barrette for headpiece use. Creating bird's-nest necklaces or a cluster of flowers to use as pendants is an option. You could also connect feathers directly to wire to make bracelets! Make it your own! Feathers make beautiful accessories which require special care to ensure they look their best. When stored hanging or lying flat they should not get crushed by other objects or by hard surfaces. They must be handled with care to prevent chipping or cracking of feathers.
To keep them looking good, feathers can appear great using twine to wrap securely around them. This kind of twine usually comes as part of a kit, or is available separately. the waxy coating of it allows it to be wrapped tightly around objects.
Create a piece of wire long enough to wrap twice around the feather and reduce it to about half its original length, with needle nose pliers, grasp both ends. One is parallel to its spine, while the other runs perpendicularly to form an elongated loop (Photos 3 & 4). After doing this you can hang it from either an earwire or jump rings (great for adding it to necklaces) by putting its hook into the hole that was created at the top of wrapping (Photo 5.).
If you'd want to add another bead crimp, just repeat the steps above until you've created the perfect feather earring remembering to make the matching pair!
Once your earrings are complete, simply connect their hooks to a jump ring, then close it - now enjoy wearing your exclusive, unique feather earrings!
